Aparigraha

Own too much stuff?

Aparigraha is the last of the five Yamas in Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga. The Yamas are moral guidelines for yogis and yoginis to help them live in righteous harmony with the world. Aparigraha translates from Sanskrit as non-greed or non-attachment. Getting rid of stuff we don’t need is good for our souls; it’s also helpful for the planet. Consuming less for ourselves also means that others don’t go without.

As you redesign your home, take time to ask yourself what it is you truly need, and if you do need it, do you have a place to put it?

The above photo I took from a house we rented in 2018. I sent it to our What's App group chat asking my family to clean up. We had too much stuff!
