  • Women + Altars

Women have been creating altars for thousands of years—tables, stones, shelves, and circles on the earth that bridge the visible and invisible. More than mere arrangements of objects, altars come alive through ceremony: when incense is lit, prayers spoken, or flowers offered in remembrance. This book traces those sacred practices from ancient hearths and ancestor shrines to fertility rites, healing wells, and seasonal rituals that shaped community life. It follows their evolution into the present, where artists, activists, and everyday women build altars as acts of remembrance, resistance, and renewal.
