I am so grateful to be back in Bali amongst the chaos and community I so dearly love. I’m currently writing my Linkletter from Outpost, a co-working space in Ubud that is full of eclectic remote nomads doing important digital things.

We timed our trip to coincide with Nyepi, a Hindu holiday known as the ‘Day of Silence.’ The Balinese (like many in India and Nepal) follow the Saka lunisolar calendar based on the moon and sun cycles to determine the best dates for festivals and religious ceremonies. So, on March 22, we celebrated the New Year, 1945, as the Saka calendar is behind our Gregorian one. On sunset before Nyepi (New Year's Eve), each neighbourhood brings its paper-mache effigies of monsters/mythical characters to intersections in town. Here they celebrate by making a lot of noise and shaking their Ogoh Ogoh's (statues) held up in the air by 30+ people to attract evil spirits. The following day the island is quiet, the streets are off-limit, the airport is closed, and any lingering spirits think nobody is here, and they depart, leaving us for a safe and healthy year.

Back in the day, as a yoga teacher, I met people in social gatherings who shared that they could not do yoga because they were not flexible. I was often graced with a live demonstration as they bent over, hands hovering at their knees. Yoga, I mentioned, wasn’t just about this. Now as a meditation teacher, I'm told by these same people they can't meditate because they can't focus. Meditation, I mention, isn’t just about this. While increased focus is a byproduct of the practice (as is increased flexibility with yoga), I now tell people this.

We engage in these practices to wake up.

To wake up our senses. To wake up our spirit. To wake up our bodies. To wake up our purpose. To wake up our creativity. To wake up to our eventual death.

To wake up and shake up our habitual thinking or negative self-talk.

We wake up to open our eyes.

I am trained on a massive amount of data, allowing me to generate coherent and informative responses on a wide range of topics. Whether you're seeking help with a specific problem, seeking information on a particular subject, or simply wanting to engage in conversation, I'm here to assist you in any way I can.

So long Google! It's been great, but we are all moving on.

Are you working on some writing, art or music? Whether it's a side project or your main gig, we all do better together. For the past six months, I have been part of a virtual group of women co-creating and supporting each other in their creative practices. Hosted by the magical Chela Davidson, we gather four times a week via zoom to check in and work/create.

Next group starts up March 27th, and there's room for you.
